Lewis Piano Movers

Piano Specialists & Full-Service Movers, All Three Counties

Licensed, fully insured movers across Delaware, DE — Spencer’s trained piano crew skids concert grands out of Greenville chateaus, clears turning Wilmington rowhome stairs, and loads beach cottages at Lewes, all through all three Delaware counties and the Delaware Valley.

Why the First State Calls Spencer First

From the Brandywine down to the beaches, a piano crew that has worked every county line in Delaware.

Grands, Uprights & Church Organs

Spencer started out tuning and delivering for a Wilmington piano dealer, so a concert grand from a Centreville estate, an upright off a Trolley Square landing, or a sanctuary organ in Dover is no guesswork for us. Our own crew skids, pads, and crates each one by hand, then keeps it stable through the Mid-Atlantic humidity from all three Delaware counties and the Delaware Valley out to the shore.

Top-Rated DE Crews

Every mover at your door wears a Lewis shirt and earns a Lewis paycheck: full-time, background-checked, W-2, and trained on pianos by Spencer himself, never temp labor pulled off a list. That is how we hold a 5-star rating on Google and Yelp.

One Flat Written Rate

No mystery add-ons, no figure that climbs once the truck is loaded. You get a clear flat rate in writing for your local Delaware move, and a binding written total on anything leaving the First State.

No Brokers, No Subcontractors

The truck in your driveway is titled to Lewis and the crew is on our payroll. Your move never gets posted to a load board or handed to a stranger in a rented van — one Delaware company carries it the whole way.

Fully Insured, $1M Cargo

Licensed for in-state Delaware work and running interstate under our own USDOT and MC authority, with $1 million in cargo coverage on every single job, pianos included.

On Time, Down the Coast

A two-hour arrival window and a call when the truck pulls out of the yard. We plan around I-95 backups through Wilmington, summer crawl on SR-1 toward Rehoboth, and the odd nor’easter so your closing date and move-out deadline still hold.

Packing & Supplies Included

Full or partial packing, with everything loaded before we leave the yard — blankets, shrink wrap, dollies, piano boards, and cartons — so the crew is working the moment we reach your Delaware door.

Specialty Moves Handled

Baby grands, gun safes, Winterthur-grade antiques, and oversized pieces moved with the right skids, straps, and a crew chief who has eased a grand down a turning Wilmington rowhome staircase before.

Free Estimate in 1 Hour

Local Moving in Delaware

Local Moving

A move that stays inside Delaware, say a shift across Newark or a run from Wilmington south to Dover, wraps up in one day with our people. Spencer walks the place beforehand, or hands it to a chief who does, and from there everything falls to us at a single locked price: lifting the load, driving I-95 or US-13, easing the last carton into a Trolley Square rowhome or a fresh subdivision out by Middletown. When a piano is part of it, the very same trained hands skid and pad that too, so no outside outfit ever touches your instrument.

Long-Distance Moving in Delaware

Long-Distance Moving

Bound out of the First State for Philadelphia, Baltimore, DC, New York, or somewhere farther off? One Delaware team pads your house, fills the truck, makes the drive, and unloads at the destination, with the cost fixed as a single binding number up front. Nobody posts your job to a load board, nobody resells the call you placed, and an upright or grand making the trip rides under our piano specialists start to finish instead of getting passed to whoever happens to be at the receiving dock.

Residential Moving in Delaware

Residential Moving

Full houses across New Castle, Kent, and Sussex are routine for us, whether that is an older Brandywine Hundred colonial or a cottage near the Lewes shore. Pads go down on the flooring and the jambs, beds and big case pieces come apart and get rebuilt once we reach the new address, and because piano specialists are already riding along, the den upright or the front-room baby grand gets proper treatment rather than being shoved aside as the odd item nobody planned for.

Apartment & Condo Moving in Delaware

Apartment & Condo Moving

Condos, rentals, and the student housing ringing the University of Delaware keep us busy all year, none more so than a Newark walk-up on the third level served by one cramped stairwell. Brenda locks in your slot ahead of the move-in rush, the crew runs floor protection from the door inward, and a snug one-bedroom or studio gets cleared in a hurry. Bringing a console or upright down those flights is no gamble here, because the folks carrying it have done it hundreds of times.

Full Packing in Delaware

Full Packing

Turn the entire house over to Tyler's packers, or just sic them on whichever cupboards and closets you have been avoiding, and the dishware, glasses, and wall art come back wrapped, boxed in twos, and tagged room by room. Anything our crew packs falls under the same protection your furniture carries once it rides on the truck, and we bring the boxes and tape along, sparing you a late-night supply run. The sheet music, the bench stuffed with books, every fragile thing near the piano gets looked after as closely as the piano.

Short-Term Storage in Delaware

Short-Term Storage

Delaware closings hardly ever sync up, so whenever a window opens between them we stash your things in a clean, locked unit and bring them back on the date you name. Reckon on roughly $110 to $270 monthly by how big a unit you take, itemized on the same estimate as the move instead of sprung on you afterward. An instrument can ride out the wait with us as well, parked off a wet floor and shielded from the muggy Delaware summer until your next place is set.

Piano Moving in Delaware

Piano Moving

Pianos are the whole reason Lewis exists. Concert grands, baby grands, uprights, consoles, spinets, player pianos, and church organs each get a proper skid, heavy pads, ratchet straps, and a crew that has handled this thousands of times rather than a couple of friends winging it on a weekend. Desmond has walked grands down the chateau staircases in Greenville and Centreville without a scratch and crated instruments bound for long hauls, and we track the humidity on every job, since a First State summer punishes a soundboard. Figure roughly $300 to $480 on an upright, $540 to $880 on a baby grand, $800 to $1,400 on a concert grand, and $380 to $700 on an organ, every number committed to paper before a key is touched.

Loading & Unloading in Delaware

Loading & Unloading

Driving your own rented box truck, or watching a pod sit out front waiting on you? Book our movers hourly to either cram it full or clear it out, and your belongings draw the same careful handling a full move would get. Where it really earns its keep is the bulky, heavy stuff, and should a piano be sitting in that load, our specialists can wrangle that one piece while you handle everything else on your own.

Senior Moving in Delaware

Senior Moving

Calm, unhurried help for the morning an aging parent gives up the Brandywine Hundred or North Wilmington house of many years, bound for a smaller place or assisted living. We sit with them deciding what makes the trip, take care of the boxing and the move itself, and set up each room so the very first evening already feels lived-in, with a decades-old family upright coming too and getting extra attention from those very movers. Spencer keeps the whole family looped in on the schedule throughout.

What Our Delaware Customers Say

Our 5-star reputation comes from First State families and piano owners we’ve moved since 2011.

Greenville · Google
★★★★

“Our Greenville house has one of those long chateau staircases, and we needed a baby grand brought down it along with a two-bedroom's worth of furniture. The instrument work was flawless: Desmond strapped it to the board, padded everything, and brought it down step by step without so much as brushing the banister. My one knock is that the arrival slot ran wide, and they landed near the back end of it, which ate up much of my morning. After that the house emptied out fast, and the price Brenda had named over the phone was exactly what I owed.”

Centreville · Google
★★★★★

“We needed the family upright taken from our Centreville home over to our daughter's place, and two regular moving outfits had already turned us down before I called Lewis. What a relief they were. A pair of Spencer's guys showed up with the right skid and straps, allowed for the legs on a tight turn at the landing, and loaded it with zero fuss. They positioned it on the truck so the soundboard would ride steady the whole way. It is obvious this is their actual trade, not a sideline.”

Wilmington's Highlands · Google
★★★★★

“The narrow, turning staircase in our Highlands three-bed tends to give movers trouble, but this crew worked it like they already knew the house. Pads went on the jambs, both beds were taken down and reassembled at the destination, and every wall came through unmarked. The flat figure Spencer named after his walk-through was the figure on my final bill, nothing more. Smoothest move we have had anywhere in Wilmington, hands down.”

Trolley Square · Google
★★★★★

“I rang several movers about my little Trolley Square studio, and Lewis was the only one that did not act like a single-room job was beneath them. Two movers had it all boxed, down the stairs, and unloaded across town in under three hours, taking care with my turntable and a stack of framed prints. The number they gave me held, with nothing extra slipped in at the finish. On a thin budget in this part of Wilmington, that honesty counted for a lot.”

A Note From Spencer

“I learned pianos before I learned trucks, tuning and delivering for a Wilmington dealer until I knew how a grand wants to be handled down a turning rowhome stair. I started Lewis Piano Movers in 2011 because too many people I met — a Greenville family with a concert grand, a Newark student in a first apartment, a Dover church with an organ to relocate — were quoted one number on the phone and handed a bigger one at the curb. So I built a Delaware crew that quotes one flat written rate, runs its own trucks, and treats your piano and your whole household like it’s our own. That is the company we show up for every morning.”

Delaware Moving Questions, Answered

The things First State families and piano owners ask Spencer’s crew most before booking.

Is Lewis Piano Movers the actual mover, or a broker?
Yes — Lewis Piano Movers is a fully licensed and insured moving company serving all of Delaware, DE, started by Spencer Lewis in 2011 after years tuning and delivering pianos in Wilmington. We run our own trucks and our own W-2 piano and household crews on every job, with Delaware authority and / on file — never a broker, matching service, or lead app.
What does a local Delaware move run?
A 2-mover crew starts at $140/hour with the truck, pads, and equipment included; add a third mover at $190 or a fourth at $250 when a chateau staircase or a long beach-house carry calls for it. Most 1–2 bedroom jobs land in the 2–4 hour range. Once Spencer’s office has walked the job or seen it on video, we can put it in writing as one flat figure, with studios around $420–$650 and a four-bedroom $2,900–$4,600. A piano on its own runs $300–$1,400 by type. Anything leaving Delaware is priced as a binding written quote.
How far ahead should I book the Lewis crew?
Aim for two to three weeks on weekend or end-of-month dates. Summer fills fastest, when University of Delaware leases turn over in Newark and beach-house closings stack up at Lewes and Rehoboth, so book those early. Weekdays and mid-month stay open longer, and any time a crew has a gap we’ll happily take a last-minute or same-day job.
Which Delaware areas do you cover?
Local moves across Delaware and all three Delaware counties and the Delaware Valley — New Castle County from Wilmington and Greenville to Newark and Middletown, Kent County around Dover and Smyrna, and Sussex County down to Lewes, Rehoboth, and Seaford — plus long-distance moves from Delaware to anywhere in the country. Pianos, organs, gun safes, and antiques are handled in-house by our own crew.
